Luxembourg is small. It's easily forgotten, sandwiched in between its shiny neighbours of France, Belgium and Germany, so I didn't expect all that much. I've never heard of specific cuisine from the country, but after some surprisingly delicious finds recently in Romania, I knew I'd find something. A short search on Instagram showed up Bloom; a small cafe a short walk from my hotel and on the outskirts of the main city.
I was staying near the main train station, which, truth be told, wasn't all that glamorous. We walked past early morning drinkers and cut price off licences before someone appearing on a row of gorgeous houses, and on the corner, in the sunshine, stood Bloom. Totally unsuspecting with minimal branding, it's one of those wonderful secrets that you only know about if someone's told you.
With huge windows to welcome in the late morning sunshine, we made ourselves comfortable on a big wooden table and bench, flipping through a copy of Cereal magazine and eyeing up the gorgeous coffee machine for our first caffeine fix of the day.
The menu was small, but even with limited choices, I struggled to make a decision. Eventually it became clear to me that I couldn't pick between the two things I wanted, and god damn it, it was a holiday and I was going to indulge! A warm slice of thick banana bread, served with butter for me to spread lavishly on top, which crumbled at the faintest touch of my fork and melted with a sip of my gloriously strong, milky coffee.
I can't quite believe I'm saying this, as a life long purveyor of a fried breakfast, but the stand out part of this breakfast was the granola. If I could eat a bowl like this every morning, I'd never touch toast again (probably...). The granola was crunchy and sugary, sat on top of the creamiest, freshest yoghurt I've ever tried. With a selection of fruit and a drizzle of honey on top, it was sweet, fresh and the sort of delicious that I'm still not quite over yet.

That bowl of granola looks so perfect! I'm going through a savory breakfasts phase at the moment but definitely want to hunt down a bowl like that this weekend. x
ReplyDeleteGooooood grief.
ReplyDeleteI *think* I've been here for bagels. Luxembourg isn't somewhere you'd think of as a foodie city but we found even the simple things done well.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. Sadly we had one really awful meal and it cost us a fortune which was such a shame when we'd found places like this that were reasonably priced and really delicious.
