Crochet and Platforms

Although not a fancy dress event, my recent trip to the Faulty Towers Dining Experience made me want to channel the 70s again. This time I switched my fringed suede waistcoat for two other pieces synonymous with that decade and all over the high street at the moment.

I'm not really a fan of the peasant blouses an gypsy tops at the moment, so crochet is about as ladylike as I get for 70s fashion. I've wanted some in my wardrobe ever since seeing that multicoloured House of Holland dress, but I've struggled to find anything that doesn't make me look a bit frumpy. I found this top in a sample sale at work (the joys of working in Head Office!), and with a plain cami underneath it's a nice little twist on the basic plain white tee I love so much. I saw something similar in Elle with a black polo shirt underneath and tapered trousers, so that could be my next experiment. I've also since worn it with black denim shorts on holiday and it was perfect for a casual evening in the sunshine.

I love this light parka too, also from Debenhams. The Preen/Edition collection is one of my favourites and I'm always looking out for the new items to drop when I'm at work. I really like the shape of the coat and how it gathers at the waist. It's thin enough for when it gets warm but also to have as a staple for this blustery summer we're currently having.

On to the star of the show though: these Kurt Geiger platform boots. With these and my curly hair, I'm basically Marc Bolan. Aren't they insanely amazing? I've had them for over four years, bought an impulse in Manchester celebrating a new job and an upcoming move to London. With a stacked front and chunky heel, you can't get a much more retro shape but the tan colour signifies more boho than glam rock, along with my vintage satchel to match. The only hint of something tougher with the studding, something I've been seeing at all the AW15 press days on black and merlot leather accessories.  These are tough but feminine and make me feel like Farah Fawcett's best mate, looking good but more than capable of giving a good arse-kicking!
