Field Day Festival

I'm wearing:
Coat - Uniqlo
Tshirt - Finders Keepers (bought Amy Valentine on Depop)
Necklace - Vintage
Shorts - Beyond Retro

I always feel like I'm kind of done with festivals, until that June-September period rolls around and I find myself lusting after stellar line-ups and pining for a overpriced, warm pint in the company of thousands of pissed music lovers. Let's face it, I like to have a shower everyday, know that the nearest toilet isn't covered in something heinous, and sleep in an actual bed, which is why the appeal of a weekend no-camping festival sounds fine and dandy to me.

Field Day isn't huge in size, it's not in the middle of nowhere (unless you're not particularly familiar with Hackney...), and it doesn't have the household name headliners, but it brings in a dedicated crowd of music lovers who are looking for something a bit different to your average festivals. Gone are the chip pan death trap food vans you'd expect, and instead you're treated to gourmet (by festival standards) grub from Street Feast. Choose from Indian wraps, pimped up mac n cheese, or maybe a big old venison burger if you just want gold old fashioned meat in bread. The booze isn't your regular selection either. Yes you have your basic piss poor plonk for the less discerning palate, but I was loving the Meantime Brewery van, keeping me refreshed with quality cold ale instead. I may sound like a snob, but I'm not one to drink to get drunk, I actually like the taste of a good beer, and Meantime always delivers in that respect.

As for the music, there was a great line up. I only went on the Saturday, which in my opinion hadn't he best bands on offer. I managed to catch Sky Ferreira, Blood Orange (who did an ace version of Mansun's 'I Can Only Disappoint U'), SBTRKT and Simian Mobile Disco amongst others. The best act by far for me though, was SOHN. You'll have seen from two of my recent Monthly Mixtapes that he often features highly on my 'I LOVE THIS' spectrum. Having recently seen him in the intimacy of his gig at the Village Underground, I wasn't sure what to expect from a festival atmosphere, but the crowd knew how to create the right ambiance to appreciate his gorgeous sound. I left even more in love with him than before, and I still cannot recommend his album 'Tremors' enough.

With the sun shining until the end of Metronomy's headline set, we were chilled out, happy and a hell of a lot less smelly than your average festival goer. Dare I finish by saying we did in fact have a 'field day'? Yeah, why not.

Purse Palpitations Week #14

Ding ding ding! The Celia Birtwell for Uniqlo collection is all in the sale and this great printed tee is currently a steal
T-shirt £7.90 Uniqlo

Camis seem to be the basic to own at the moment, with everyone and their mother owning the Topshop ones. River Island actually have a great selection too and they're cheaper.
Cami £15 River Island

H&M Sportswear is my favourite on the high street and they keep bringing out new pieces that maintain that status. This sports bra is a new must-have.
Sports bra £12.99 H&M

These T-Bar Points are such a fabulous shape and the pastel shade is perfect to see out Summer with some boyfriend jeans
Heels £68 Topshop

Florals and Breton Stripes

This is it. I've found the perfect summer jacket. It's light and floral and just so pretty! I've been throwing it over every outfit recently, even those I have to wear an actual coat as well at the moment.

Jacket: Zara (can't find the link, but it's recent!)
Dress: Uniqlo
(Extremely dirty) High tops: Primark
I can't quite put my finger on why it goes so well with this breton stripe t-shirt dress, maybe it's the blue in both. Regardless, I am a happy camper in this pairing. This whole outfit is so comfortable. I wore it to wander around Reading at the weekend while visiting for a friend's birthday. I've never been there before and I couldn't believe how quiet it was! I'm obviously now used to London always being stupidly busy.

Bright patterns, bright jewellery, bright lipstick and nails. Little additions to keep this casual outfit fun which I love. I'm so guilty of finding the right accessory at the bottom of a box of randoms proving that it's always worth having a rummage to find the perfect final touch.

Fashion: Parka and Boots

My favourite outerwear pairing at the moment is this big ol' parka, and some chunky boots that are just right for stomping through the city.

It's not exactly a Winter Warmer, but my Uniqlo parka is perfect for throwing on over big chunky jumpers and layering with a scarf. It's a couple of sizes too big for exactly that reason. And when I put up the hood I look like a scary 'yoof', but hey it shields me from the horizontal rain London seems to be getting recently, so it doesn't matter if I can't see what's coming towards me. Much...

I got these square toe leather boots from Hoy Boutiue at ASOS Marketplace. I've been looking for something with a chunky heel for what seems like forever and these are my new favourite boots. I wear them with skirts, jeans, dresses - they go with literally everything. I left them at my parents' house last week and I've been lost without them!

I'm actually enjoying the crap weather so I can wear these two!

Shopping: Lulu Guinness for Uniqlo Shopping Event

I've already written about how much I love the new Uniqlo collaboration with Lulu Guinness, but when there was an opportunity to shop the collection with 20% off obviously I took it with both hands!

Just like the Laura Ashley event last month, this event was held in the flagship Uniqlo store on Oxford St in association with Stylist Magazine. There were loads of things going on throughout the store, including a hairdresser:

...a nail salon...

...and the best section, the FREE pick 'n' mix complete with Laduree macaroons!

Waitresses were handing out free cranberry or elderflower cocktails, decorated with signature Lulu Guinness lips.

And there was even a chance to meet the designer in person!

Of course, I bought a couple more things (with discount I couldn't resist). I'm so pleased that I shopped the collection when it first came out, as the top I bought last time has apparently sold out! But I did get this cute t-shirt that is VERY Lulu Guinness!

And a great breton stripe dress, all prepped for spring when it finally decides to hit!

With each purchase shoppers got a free copy of Grazia and some limited edition Lulu Guinness postcards.

I love these Uniqlo events, they are so well thought out and considering they are free I'm amazed how many freebies you can get! Sign up to the Uniqlo or Stylist newsletters to keep up to date with any future events.

Shopping: Lulu Guinness for Uniqlo

Another month, another Uniqlo collaboration. I love Uniqlo for getting well made and long lasting basics, but they are really making a name for themselves with all the recent pairings with famous designers, and as someone who shops on a budget and can't afford the real thing, I love them even more for it.

You may have seen my post on the Laura Ashley range they brought out a few months ago (and which can still be found in shops and online), and news about the Orla Kierly collab of which I didn't get anything from (although I adored the slippers!). This time it's the turn of Lulu Guinness.

She's most famous for her use of lips, especially on her gorgeous clutch bags like this beauty:

And these can be seen on a number of the t-shirts available from Uniqlo, seen online.

I settled for this very basic but oh so pretty top which reminds me of a cameo necklace mixed with a postage stamp.

I'm trying to buy more plain tees at the moment so I can make more use of my ever growing necklace collection. I know prints are all the rage at the moment and I am embracing some of them, but sometimes there's nothing better than a pair of well fitting jeans and white t-shirt for simple fashion.

Let me know if you've bought anything from any of the Uniqlo ranges recently!

Shopping: Laura Ashley for Uniqlo Shopping Event

Forget Topshop and Mary Katrantzou or H&M and David Beckham, my favourite high street collaboration at the moment is Uniqlo and Laura Ashley. I was mega excited when I heard about it 1) because I love floral and Laura Ashley do it better than anyone else and 2) because Uniqlo is affordable and reliable. Tick and tick!

Along with goodness knows how many others I queued outside Uniqlo's flagship store on Oxford Street with my print out invite from Stylist Magazine to shop the new collection with a fab 20% off. Even though I'd already indulged in one of the t-shirts already I couldn't pass up the opportunity to buy more at a cheaper price!

The event had a vintage theme to it and was adorable in its set-up. Free cocktails were being circulated in unique vintage cups and saucers, served by girls in 1950s housewife get-up. So quaint and cute!

And keeping with the theme, TV chef and vintage darling Gizzi Erskine was DJing songs from back in the day to keep the atmosphere afloat.

But back to the clothes! The collection is a selection of t-shirts, tunics and scarves all in a variety of Laura Ashley floral patterns. So many beautiful patterns it was hard to keep myself to a limit!

I actually ended up buying a tunic dress that is the same pattern to the tshirt I already bought the other week but in a different colour palette because my style isn't really delicate enough to pass off the ditsy, teensy flowers on some of the tops. And because it was 20% throughout the store for the night I also bought a bright blue polo shirt (which I can't seem to find a picture of online) which I envisage wearing done all the way up and tucked into a pleated skirt. But we'll see how that pans out once I try it on altogether! Here's what I bought from the Laura Ashley range anyway (pics from the Uniqlo website):

Let me know if you've bought anything from the range, I'd like to know what everyone else is pairing their florals with!
