Dinner at Shoryu, Kingly Court

ramen restaurants london

Cronuts, burgers, pulled pork; us Londoners love a food craze. Over the last year ramen has joined the ranks of the city's favourite dishes with restaurants dedicated to the stuff popping up everywhere. I still haven't made it to Kanada-Ya due to the stupid queues outside it around the clock, but I did manage to get into Koya before it closed down. Shoryu is bringing ramen to the masses, with four outposts now trading and introducing people to the very basics of the dish and its origins.

Dinner at Whyte & Brown, Soho

Have you been to Kingly Court recently? Where did all the new restaurants come from?! It's three levels of far-too-exciting, I didn't really know where to start. We headed into Whyte & Brown which is spread across the ground and first floors, decked out in sturdy metal framed tables and relaxed wooden chairs, the basic set-up reflecting the basic theme to their menu: chicken.

Shopping: Carnaby Street Shopping Party

A couple of times a year, those in know, and those who are lucky enough to stumble across it, gather on Carnaby Street to grab some amazing bargains. The Carnaby Street Shopping Party encompasses the world famous street and its neighbours to offer 20% off in a massive range of shops, boutiques and restaurants for one evening only.

This is the second one I've been to, and I was definitely not short of a few bargains before the night was through!

First stop for me was the newly opened Monki. The Swedish brand have brought their affordable, simple and off-the-moment fashion to London, and I was far from the only one hunting for a bargain. I bought a few uncomplicated items to help me build up my 'base wardrobe'.

Black scalloped shorts £25

Grey vest with pocket £8

Striped tee £12
Right next door to Monki is fellow Swedish chain Cheap Monday. Most well known for their jeans, this shop is loud. It's one of those hipster stores that needs to play its music ear blistering loud so that you don't ask the staff for help. However, the clothes are reminiscent of All Saints with less rips and tears, basic and subdued so that everything goes with anything. What I bought though, wasn't so tame. I've finally fallen into the neon trend, and I'm so in love with this jumper!

Neon pink open knit jumper £50
I attempted to try American Apparel too, but the queue was absolutely insane! Although not as huge as MAC, where a barrier had been set up outside to stop the hoards of bargain hunters. If you're interested in when the next discount event will be, sign up on the Carnaby Street website and get there early!

Food: Pitt Cue Co, London

I think I've found my new favourite place to eat. No, scrap that. I've DEFINITELY found my new favourite place to eat. Following a steady build of praise and acclaim over many blogs, newspapers and websites, Pitt Cue Co started to ingrain itself into my subconscious. I heard rumours of BBQ meat that melts in your mouth and queues that wind around the block from the moment the doors open.

But my beautiful friend Ms G and I braved the cold and made to quiet Newburgh St at the back of Carnaby St to Pitt Cue Co's tiny little corner premises where miraculously (we were told by the waitress) there wasn't a queue! We were sat upstairs on leather bar stools, which I personally think was nicer than the tables downstairs (which doesn't have any windows and is quite squished), and listened to blues rock music which fitted in perfectly with the BBQ and whiskey theme.

But let's not beat around the bush. We were here for the food. The menu was simple and short which included the staples of pulled pork and beef brisket. We couldn't decide which ones to go for so I went for the pork and Ms G went for the beef and we swapped half and half so neither of us missed out! And here it is:

So what is in my charming little tin tray up there? On the right is the melt in the mouth beef brisket and simply amazing pulled pork. In the middle, pickled gherkins, onions and red cabbage - which wouldn't normally be my thing but I completely polished it all off! On the right, fresh toasted sourdough bread, and in the jar is cheesy mash topped with the burnt end of beef brisket. Is your mouth watering yet? If I hadn't of gone for lunch, I would definitely stayed for dessert, but as it was I was totally and utterly full.

Don't underestimate this place. You may have to queue but my god it's worth it! The kitchen's open until 10pm so there's really no excuse.
